About the Institute for Korean Studies
The Institute for Korean Studies (IKS, 미주리대학교 한국학연구소) is devoted to the development and support of Korean Studies at the University of Missouri. Established in January 2017, it is the central hub for MU faculty, students, and affiliates to come together for the study of Korea and to explore the world of Korean studies through teaching, research, campus programming, and public engagement.
Central to IKS’ mission is to highlight MU as an interdisciplinary center of research excellence on Korea. MU faculty and students are engaged in cutting-edge research in Korean Studies across the university’s schools and departments, and our programs seek to support that work.
Our faculty teach a wide range of Korea-related courses, in disciplines ranging from political science and history to tourism, agriculture, and legal studies. Building on strong relationships in Korea that date back to the legacy of President Truman and the Korean War, IKS also seeks to broaden understanding of the two Koreas on the University’s four campuses and throughout the state of Missouri by promoting Korea-related events on campus, and through public commentary.
